What’s the object of 108?

To be the last player (Being) to score 108 points or more. A player wins by giving away or discarding all of your cards in your hand before your opponents (Nothing). If you score over 108 points, you leave the game to become score and rule keeper while the remaining players continue to play (Infinity). If your total is exactly 108 points, then your score is halved to 54 points to stay in the game (Being).

FAQ

Q: How do I play 108?

At the start of the game, each player enters the state of Being, is dealt a certain number of cards and the rest of the deck is put in the center and the top card is flipped face up next to it. The players then each take turns trying to eliminate their cards by matching either the suit or number of the topmost card in the pile until they have eliminated all of their cards. If a player cannot use one of their hand cards, then they either can draw from the deck or play one of the special cards which each have a specific rule to follow. The round ends when one player runs out of cards, which brings them to the state of Nothing. The other players then have to add up their points from their remaining hand cards. If any players score over 108 points, they leave the game and enter the state of Infinity and become scorekeeper. If a player scores exactly 108 points, their score is halved and they continue playing. The cards are then shuffled and re-dealt to begin the next round.

Q: When does the game end?

The game ends when the last player scores over 108 points and enters the state of Infinity.

Q: What are the faces on the cards?

Each suit and number group features its own respective ethnic and career group in order to represent the diversity in professions. In the suits, Hearts features those of African descent; Spades of Asian ethnicity; Diamonds of Latin background, and Clubs of Europeans. Likewise, for the number cards, we chose to feature various modern-day professions: Twos show lawyers, Threes show bankers, Fours accountants, Fives doctors, Sixes artists, Sevens engineers, Eights teachers, Nines farmers, and Tens merchants. For the face cards, we have hand drawn mythical Jacks as warriors, Queens as empresses, and Kings as emperors. As for the Joker, we drew what’s common for all people.
